DUBACH FBLA WORKS CONCESSION STAND |
Thanks to Dubach FBLA member, Delessa Richard, FBLA students are successfully operating the school’s store this year. Richard is in charge of staffing the store, handling the store’s sales, maintaining a record of profits, and overseeing product inventory. The student store operations not only earns money for the FBLA treasury, but also earns students “points” towards the cost of their district and state travels later this year.
In addition to the student store, Richard also manages teams of FBLA students who sign up to help at the school’s concession sales at basketball games. So far, Dubach’s FBLA club earned over $1700 by helping with concession sales.
This year there are 10 hard-working FBLA students who work rotational shifts at the student store and at athletic event concessions.

AHS FBLA Promotes Recycling Project |
The Atlanta High School FBLA’s Community Service Project this year will once again be promoting efforts to recycle plastic items. Last year, our club held two school-wide events to encourage our student body to collect recyclable plastic items. During the months of November 2011(8314 items) and March 2012 (15,568 items) the AHS student body collected a grand total of 23,882 recyclable plastic!! These items were donated to the Winn Sheltered Workshop in Winnfield. The Winn Sheltered Workshop is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing job training services for adults with developmental disabilities. During our drive in October 2012, we exceeded both of the previous monthly collections by collecting a total of 17, 470 items. Congratulations to the following homerooms for their amazing contributions to the project: 1st place—Mrs. Ballard’s 2nd grade class (4,291 items); 2nd place—Mrs. James’ 1st grade class (3,183 items); and 3rd place—Ms. Durbin’s 4th grade class (2, 138 items). We sincerely appreciate these outstanding results. As a reward for their outstanding collections, our club gave the 2nd graders a cake and ice cream party plus free slushies for the entire class; 1st graders received a coke float party and all the 4th graders received a free slushie. Our club appreciates everyone who contributed to our recycling project. With just a little effort, anyone can recycle all of their plastic bottles and make a tremendous impact for a cleaner and greener earth.

Being in the moment, most people don’t realize how hectic it can be being involved in many different activities. One way to tell if you have too much on your hands is if your grades start dropping. School is most important, so you may have to cut back on some outside activities. Another sign is tiredness. If your activities take up a great amount of time that you don’t get enough sleep, it’s too much. Your body is very good at warning you if you learn to listen to it.
Being involved in many different extracurricular activities can help you become a better-rounded person and give you a healthier outlook on life. It can teach you important learning and communication skills. Having a job teaches you self-discipline. It also prepares you for work after you graduate.
I know how hectic my life gets with everything I’m involved in. Just when you think you have a break, something else comes up. The main thing is getting your priorities in order. Family, school, and sleep should be the three most important things. Through all the craziness, I always remember, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13
